FUMNS has a play-based Kindergarten that meets five full days a week. The class is led by a head teacher and an assistant teacher with an intimate class size of no more that 14 students. Kindergarten at FUMNS follows the natural curiosities of the children to form the basis for inquiry and study throughout the year. Regularly using the outdoors as our classroom (we enjoy outdoor play and learning three times a day); our students use the world around them to apply academic as well social skills.

We use traditional phonics instruction, as well as guided reading practices and small instructional groups.  The students learn sight words, phonetic decoding and the conventions of reading. Basic math concepts are learned through daily lessons, calendar activities, along with hands-on math games and manipulatives.

Our classroom boasts natural light and organization that is child-centered, giving students ownership of their space and of their learning. The curriculum also includes art, music, science, and physical education as well as after school enrichments and an extended day option.
